Established in 1936, the Greater New York Safety Council is a federally recognized non-governmental non-profit (501(c)3) organization dedicated to emergency preparedness and workplace safety through educational outreach to public and private organizations. The Council's board of directors represent small business, industry, labor and public sector agencies.
The Council provides a diversity of educational programs including both online and classroom-based training. We welcome interest from potential donors to advance these efforts.

Through the Special Training And Resources (S.T.A.R.) outreach, the Safety Council impacts over one million American workers in hundreds of workplaces.
S.T.A.R. provides:
- classroom training in key topical areas
- train-the-trainer workshops which empower others to return to their organizations and multiply the impact of vital training by teaching teams of others in their own organizations.
- Post-training support programs with expert follow-up assistance and resources
- Information and referral hotline support
- Online training modules with audio-visual discussions by subject matter experts and completion certificates.
- Integrated planning workshops and conferences.
The S.T.A.R. program has regularly provided classroom training to over 2,000 participants annually.Participants include safety & health officers, security directors, facility managers and human resource professionals from small to large organizations (small businesses, multi-national corporations, labor unions, municipalities, etc.) Participants return to their organizations with both training and resources (manuals, presentations, handouts, etc.) which they in turn use to train their fellow employees. This train-the-trainer approach widens impact while minimizing costs.
In addition to our classroom training, over 224,000 employees are currently being reached by our online training initiative alone. The online program includes audio-visual awareness level modules with full audio-visual capabilities as well as downloadable course materials for instructors to train others in key topics. Online delivery is especially important for many organizations that cannot always send employees to offsite training. Easily Accessible Online Education Modules & Training include:
